Image Compressor
Shrink big JPG photos for faster websites and easier uploads — without uploading your images anywhere.
What is this tool?
Photos straight from a modern phone are often 3 to 8 MB, far too heavy for a web page, a real-estate listing, a job application portal with a 2 MB limit, or an email attachment. This image compressor re-encodes your photo as an optimized JPG at the quality you choose, typically cutting the file size by 50 to 80 percent with no visible difference on screen.
Unlike most online compressors, your image is never uploaded to a server. The compression happens on your own device using your browser's built-in image engine, so family photos, documents and ID scans stay completely private. Use the quality slider to balance size against sharpness: 80 percent is a sweet spot for the web, while 60 percent is fine for thumbnails and previews.
How to use it
- Click the file field and choose a JPG or PNG photo from your device.
- Drag the quality slider — lower quality means a smaller file.
- Watch the before-and-after sizes, preview the result, then click Download compressed image.
Formula & method
Worked example
A 4.2 MB vacation photo from a smartphone, compressed at 80 percent quality, typically lands near 700 KB — small enough for any upload form or web page, and visually indistinguishable from the original when viewed on a screen.
Frequently asked questions
Will compression make my photo look blurry?
At 80 percent quality, almost nobody can tell the difference on a screen. Very low settings (under 50 percent) do soften fine detail, which is why the preview lets you check before downloading.
Are my images uploaded to your server?
No. Everything runs in your browser with the canvas API. Your photos never leave your device, and nothing is stored.
What is the best quality setting for a website?
Around 75–85 percent for photographs. It keeps images crisp on retina displays while loading several times faster than the camera original.
